Supporting Mods
As the power of the engine
has been increased substantially and the fact the car had a design flaw with
the lower torque mount the following changes have been made to support the
extra power delivery through the front wheels.
Revo lower torque mount kit
And the twist to the normal
setup is that we fitted this to an Audi Aluminium Sub Frame (powder coated Red)
to reduce further the weight and also improve the strength
Part Number 5Q0 199 369 G –
BEFORE FITTING

All fitted

And for the same reason (extra
power) we need to upgrade the engine and gearbox mounts

Right hand side, engine /
gearbox mount

Left hand side engine mount

You can check out Revo video here and sales blurb here
For me these bits of kit stop
the wheel hop and engine bounce under power whilst at the same time not
creating lots of extra NVH.

One point to note, as you can
see in the above picture the water bottle is gets moved forward due to the new
mount and no longer fits on the original holding bolts (14) and (16). The
extended tank (1) just sits on top of the bottom part of the water tank (2) and
works fine and I had no issues with water leaking or movement of the bottle. I
have now replaced this with a Racingline extension
kit when I fitted the Catch Can.

As the car is being used on
the track oil temps was very important to control along with volume and
ensuring the oil was available on fast corners / fast change of direction.

As you can see in the above
pictures the new sump is made of Aluminium (so lightweight but strong) and has
a greater volume (which also keeps oil temps better controlled and lower) and
the baffling works very well. One other major benefit is you get a real sump
plug rather than the stupid VW Plastic one use thing – Full details of the
setup below:
We have also fitted a Leyo catch can

Overview of how it works

And this is the bit that does
the separation, having just cleaned mine out I can confirm this thing takes out
a lot of very bad stuff.

Protect
your engine by preventing excessive crankcase oil vapor entering the intake
and carbon build up with LEYO Oil Catch Can Kit. Also known as blow-by, oil
vapor is produced under load, spirited driving elevates oil vapor level at an
incredible rate, it is then circulated back into the intake tract resulting
in carbon build-up of the intake valve, trapped oil residuals in both intake
tract and intercooler. Unfiltered recirculated oil vapor will not only
diminish performance, but also impose devastating effect to the engine. Filtration
begins immediately as oil vapor enters the uniquely designed LEYO Oil Catch
Can filtration system, allowing pressurized oil vapor to enter freely,
accelerates condensation, effectively traps oil with specially designed
perforated stainless steel plates before cleaner
gases recirculates back into the intake tract. Made with T304 stainless steel
and high grade aluminium ensuring rust free, leak
free operation. LEYO R&D team had also included exclusive glass openings
for visual indication of waste oil level, with pre-installed drain valve,
protecting your pride and joy has never been easier. |

AND WHAT IS NEXT
No more power mods, this is all
about improving the car reliability and longevity
When the lockdown is over I have booked the car in for the following
Firstly, upgraded low
pressure fuel pump

This will improve the flow of
fuel to the upgraded high pressure fuel pump
|
|
|
|
And the final item for now is an upgraded Turbo crank
pulley The CTS Turbo
crank pulley is lightened to reduce parasitic drag on the engine. This
results in faster revving and more horsepower. Included in the kit is the
lightened crank pulley, replacement OEM bolt and a shorter belt. The pulley
is made from T6 6061 aircraft grade aluminum and
hard anodized to reduce wear.
